Command Signs in South Africa — Blue Circular Signs Explained

A command sign is a blue disc with a white symbol. Where a prohibition sign tells you what you may not do, a command sign tells you what you must do — proceed straight, keep left, turn right, switch your headlamps on. The instruction applies from the sign until the next junction unless a sign or marking says otherwise.

The road signs section of the learner’s licence test is 28 questions and you must get 23 of them right. Signs are asked by face, not by code — you are shown the sign and asked what it means, so learn the shape and colour rule first and the individual faces second.
